Not only the addict, but the entire family is affected by the disease of Drug Addiction. When a member of our family is suffering, we all are suffering. Families also suffer when their loved ones begin to show signs of behaviors that cause them to lie, steal or otherwise influence family members in order to continue their drug addiction. It can be very difficult to understand the magnitude of the problem for both the addicted person and their family.
ARK offers family support that is crucially needed in the drug addiction treatment process, which specifically focuses on the recovering individuals and their families. Family members and loved one’s are encouraged to attend the support group with their loved one for a self-motivated education and practice group that allows for open communication and mutual understanding of expectations, family approach, co-dependence, facilitating behavior, relapse prevention and boundary setting. One The first thing to do for family members is to educate themselves about the disease of addiction. Make sure to have regular meetings with our family counselors to learn about the disease (drug addiction) as it connects to human behavior and management. Know the do's and don’ts from the rehab center. Once they have learned how addiction can take control, they may be in a enhanced position to understand what their family member is going through on addiction. Certainly, the information will not excuse addict’s behavior. However, they may find that they can embrace more consideration and less antipathy toward their family members when they know more about addiction. When the drug abuser member is in treatment, the family can still maintain an active role in his recovery process. A few suggestions for helping in this situation might be:
-Writing letters to back-up the recovering member of the family
-Making themselves available for family counseling sessions in the rehab center
-Not to judge or condemn the individual’s disease
-Regular Visit to the rehab center when it is allowed and encouraged by counselors and staff As the recovering addict regains their ability to think clearly, they may be humiliated and embarrassed by their behavior. By showing support throughout the process, families can help to restore the self-confidence the recovering addict has been without for some time. -
We have a alumni of our recovering addicts and also their friends and family are involved in the movement. We try to arrange social gatherings in every events like eid, monthly drug free clean time celebration, new year etc . Also we go to a yearly outing from this alumni.
