About Ark

In 1995 recovering addicts started coming to Chittagong after completing their respective drug addiction treatment. In 1998 some of them started a 12 Step Group (DARIA) at a rooftop beside Nupur Cenema Hall. There were 13 to 15 members including saifuddin, shamim,parvez, tuhin, shipon, kamrul and others. The building was owned by kamrul and shipon’s family. This was the first ever registered NA group in Bangladesh. In that period, it was mandatory for drug addicts to attend at least four (4) meetings to show their willingness to get admitted to the only rehab center (BARACA) in Bangladesh. As the members were all BARACA patients, anybody from Chittagong were told to do their prerequisite meetings at DARIA. Then we started to do the follow-up program of BARACA for Chittagong patients in a two room facilty at the same house where our group meeting was happening. It was an out-patient facility run from 9AM to 5PM. Daria members were running the program by rotation. By that time there were four rehab centers and some detoxification facilities in Dhaka.While running the out-patient service, we faced lot of guardians who are not being able to send their loved one to Dhaka for Drug Addiction Treatment. Then in 15 Jun 2000 we started ARC. The first ever Rehab Center outside Dhaka. Then it was called a project of Daria. The founder directors were:

In 25 June 2002 we registered ARK, an independent Social Welfare Organization. It became the first ever Rehab Center for Drug Addiction Treatment in Chittagong. Since last 17 years we are doing our level best to be the ARK for suffering drug addicts and we have been able to bring lights to so many families.
